The French Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet has only recently entered the United States as it created over ten years ago by Pierre Dukan, who is a nutritionist and doctor. This is one of the leading French diets for women with more than 1.5 million followers. Even celebrities have this group of French women dieters connected like Jennifer Lopez and Giselle Bundchen.

The premise behind the Dukan diet is to eat high protein foods while reducing the intake of carbohydrates, the food contains simple carbohydrates such as fruits, legumes, starchy vegetables, and whole grains. This diet may seem similar to the Atkins diet, but this diet focuses on the consumption of foods that are low in fat, while promoting the Atkins diet healthy fats. The main foods that are eaten in the Dukan diet are chicken, fish and low fat dairy products.

There are four phases to the Dukan Diet. The first phase of the diet can be anywhere from 1 to 10 days. The time that you spend on this phase depends on your weight loss goal. In the first 5 days, you can lose up to 10 pounds. This phase is very difficult for many dieters because they eat only protein foods, no fat and no carbs. Only water, diet soda, coffee and tea can be consumed the drinks to accompany meals.

The next phase of the Dukan Diet is called the cruise phase. Find between eating only protein on some days to go only with vegetables and protein to other. The types of vegetables that can be consumed in the diet include tomatoes, celery, asparagus, spinach, cucumber and lettuce. This is the part of the diet where you lose the rest of the weight until you hit your target weight loss goal.

The third phase is a phase of consolidation. This part of the Dukan diet is where you keep your diet and weight goal. Find continue with alternate days protein and protein with vegetables. The last phase of the Dukan Diet is the stabilization phase. This is where the dieter can again eat the foods you want, during the period of consolidation as a guide to follow with specific days (at least weekly) of only consume protein foods. Some of the foods that are recommended for this diet include lean ham, veal, chicken, turkey, lean beef, fish, cottage cheese, egg whites, green vegetables, oat bran, nonfat yogurt, tea, coffee, diet soda and artificial sweeteners.
